On December 11th 2015, Rome was appointed as a UNESCO “Creative City of Film”, by virtue of which it was included in the Network of the Creative Cities of the World. The award was granted to the candidacy project presented by Roma Capitale, developed by Fondazione Cinema per Roma with the support of both public and private subjects that are part of the city's film and audiovisual industrial network. The award was subsequently presented to the city of Rome by UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova on 25th February 2016
